Branded Merchandise

Merchandise Approval

Branded merchandise should be approved before being ordered. For approval on BYU Marriott merchandise please email a description of the product, vendor, the intended audience/recipients, and a copy of the artwork to byumarriottlogos@byu.edu or call (801) 422-7696.

BYU Marriott student associations do not need to seek approval for merchandise designs provided those designs do not incorporate the names and/or logos of BYU or any other official BYU unit (e.g. BYU Marriott, Ballard Center, BYU Athletics, etc.). When designing branded merchandise, please adhere to design best practices and all copyright and trademark laws. If you would like to incorporate the names and/or logos of any BYU or any other official BYU unit, please contact BYU Marriott Marketing, Communications, and Technology at (801) 422-7696 or marriott@byu.edu.

Approved Vendors

All BYU-branded merchandise must be produced by a company that has a current licensing agreement with BYU through our licensing agent CLC (Collegiate Licensing Company). Please visit brand.byu.edu/merchandise for a list of approved vendors.

If you have any questions about merchandise or the companies licensed to produce BYU merchandise, contact Adam Parker in BYU Trademark Licensing at (801) 422-1920 or aparker@byu.edu.

Guidelines

Merchandise and promotional items allow BYU Marriott entities and individuals to express what the BYU Marriott brand means to them. Follow these guidelines for branded swag that effectively represents BYU Marriott.

  • Brand Essence: BYU Marriott merchandise should reflect the BYU Marriott brand. It should also be consistent with BYU standards and values, including the CES Honor Code and CES Dress and Grooming Principles and Expectations.
  • BYU Marriott Logos: BYU Marriott merchandise should show a BYU Marriott logo, when possible, as either a dominant or secondary image. Do not modify the shape of logos and do not add or remove logo elements.
  • BYU Marriott Colors: The BYU Marriott logo should appear only in approved logo colors.
  • Minimum Size: Ensure that logos are large enough to be read clearly and to reproduce well. In most applications, the logo should be at least 1.25 inches wide. Please note, embroidery may require a larger width.
  • Athletic Events: A nonathletic entity may use an athletic logo on merchandise for an athletic event, but the entity’s approved logo (using the BYU Marriott logo) must also appear on the item (in a separate location).
  • Informal Merchandise: On informal merchandise (T-shirts, mugs, stickers, etc.), artwork can be more informal: The artwork can include graphics and can show the BYU Marriott name in any typeface. But such one-time artwork is not a logo and cannot be repeated. An approved logo should also appear on the merchandise unless BYU Marriott School of Business already appears in the graphic. All informal merchandise must be approved by BYU Marriott Marketing, Communications, and Technology.
