Instead of going to the playground as a child, Luana Tu’ua spent her childhood going to the Salt Lake City airport to watch airplanes take off to destinations beyond. Ever since, Tu’ua, the BYU Marriott School of Business global supply chain senior and Women in Business club president, has endeavored to pursue her passion for aerospace and make an impact on others abroad, wherever life takes her.

Never give up. That’s a lesson that Allison Oberle learned early as a student at BYU that she has relied on often since graduation. While she initially struggled with deciding her career path, Oberle, a 2015 global supply chain management alumna from the BYU Marriott School of Business, overcame obstacles as a student and has excelled in her job, becoming an operations manager at a major corporation in only five years.

Pixton, who teaches analytical reasoning as an assistant professor of global supply chain, works as a teacher and a researcher to teach strategies that ultimately allow students to help organizations to function more effectively.

BYU Marriott global supply chain management (GSCM) senior Sarah Stoddard spent the summer after her sophomore year in 2018 producing her own musical, Spellbound—and that’s only the beginning of an impressive list of achievements she’s reached throughout her life.

Completing an internship in Berlin and participating in BYU Marriott's Global Marketing Study Abroad has convinced Wegrowski that everyone should have international experiences. He believes these experiences are an invaluable way to gain an appreciation for and broader perspective of the world in which we live.

Students Get Moving at Annual Global Supply Chain Management Case Competition

How did Masyn Barney, a junior in BYU Marriott’s global supply chain management program, spend the week before his wedding? He competed with three other teammates in the GSCM program’s fifth annual case competition. The competition took place 27–31 January 2020. Students in BYU Marriott’s marketing, strategy, and experience design management programs were invited to participate in the competition. Pre-management, engineering, and science majors could compete as well.

Prepared to Succeed

Joey Chen, a senior in BYU Marriott’s GSCM program, returned to her home country of China this past summer to assist Tom Foster, the GSCM department chair, with case research. Though Chen had less experience than the other researchers also working on the project, by using the knowledge she has gained during her time as a student in the GSCM program, and with Foster’s assistance, Chen became an integral part of the research project.

Simon Greathead, a native of Lancaster, England, who comes from a working-class background, is the first to say he was unlikely to become a professor. However, thanks to his parents’ hard work and his motivation, Greathead feels he is now living his dream as a global supply chain professor at the BYU Marriott School of Business.
