The Brigham Young University Marriott School of Business welcomes nine new professors this fall.

When global supply chain adjunct professor and Dublin native John Connolly first came to visit Utah as a young adult, he had no idea that he would be teaching classes at BYU Marriott only eight years later. Now, Connolly is thankful for his past education and experiences and feels privileged to be part of the aim to educate and influence students at BYU.

Global supply chain management (GSCM) alumna McKenzi Gebhard knows she wouldn’t be where she is now if not for the BYU Marriott School of Business. From influential faculty, valuable peer relationships, and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, the “BYU Marriott family” and its values have helped Gebhard become the professional she is today.

The MBA director at BYU Marriott, Daniel Snow wishes he had a dollar for every time he’s received compliments about his BYU Marriott graduates in the workforce. Since becoming the MBA director in June 2020, Snow has dedicated himself to not only upholding the school’s values and reputation but also fulfilling his personal goal to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Every year, each department in the BYU Marriott School of Business selects one outstanding student to receive the Bateman Award, which recognizes excellence both inside and outside the classroom. The award is named after Merrill J. Bateman, who served as the dean of BYU Marriott from 1975–79 and the president of BYU from 1996–2003. 

On 1 October 2020, BYU Marriott School of Business global supply chain management (GSCM) alumni, students, and faculty gathered together for their first-ever virtual alumni conference. During the event, a record-breaking number of alumni and students learned from and reconnected with one another from places across the country.

Instead of going to the playground as a child, Luana Tu’ua spent her childhood going to the Salt Lake City airport to watch airplanes take off to destinations beyond. Ever since, Tu’ua, the BYU Marriott School of Business global supply chain senior and Women in Business club president, has endeavored to pursue her passion for aerospace and make an impact on others abroad, wherever life takes her.

Never give up. That’s a lesson that Allison Oberle learned early as a student at BYU that she has relied on often since graduation. While she initially struggled with deciding her career path, Oberle, a 2015 global supply chain management alumna from the BYU Marriott School of Business, overcame obstacles as a student and has excelled in her job, becoming an operations manager at a major corporation in only five years.

Talking about airline tickets, bike tires, and toilet paper all together in one conversation may seem unusual, but students in the global supply chain management (GSCM) program at the BYU Marriott School of Business talk about these products and many more in interactive online discussion boards, a new feature of the program’s introductory class. Making these connections between classroom concepts and supply chain principles in action prepares students to work in an ever-changing world.

Whether he’s building planter boxes to prepare for his family’s garden projects or creating a community that stimulates learning in the classroom, Clark Pixton strives to create spaces for growth. Pixton, who teaches analytical reasoning as an assistant professor of global supply chain, works as a teacher and a researcher to teach strategies that ultimately allow students to help organizations to function more effectively.

While many college students spend summers between semesters developing their talents or learning new skills during internships, few can say they spent their summer producing an original musical. BYU Marriott global supply chain management (GSCM) senior Sarah Stoddard spent the summer after her sophomore year in 2018 producing her own musical, Spellbound—and that’s only the beginning of an impressive list of achievements she’s reached throughout her life.

Like the four parts of a symphony, John Gardner’s four degrees have each led him to his position as an associate professor in BYU Marriott's global supply chain management program.

He competed with three other teammates in the GSCM program’s fifth annual case competition. The competition took place 27–31 January 2020. Students in BYU Marriott’s marketing, strategy, and experience design management programs were invited to participate in the competition. Pre-management, engineering, and science majors could compete as well.
