Admission Criteria

Preparing to Apply

Competition to get into the accounting program is high. Historically, between 50 and 75 percent of applicants are admitted to the Junior Core.

In order to have a strong application, we recommend taking the following steps:

  • Earn good grades in your prerequisite courses (ACC 200, ACC 310, IS 201). The minimum prerequisite GPA to apply is 3.0, but the prerequisite GPA of admitted students in 2025 was between 3.4 and 4.0, with a median of 3.9. Prerequisite GPA, Total GPA, and BYU GPA over the last 30 credit hours are all considered, along with other factors. Please note that we weight ACC 310 grades more heavily than other prerequisite courses.
  • Substantially complete GE courses.

The School of Accountancy has a rolling admission program such that applications are considered throughout the year. Students with exceptional prerequisite GPAs may be granted early admission through this rolling admissions process. All other applications will be held and considered with the full applicant pool after the June application deadline.

The application is due on the last business day of June at 4:30 p.m. All prerequisites must be completed in order to apply.
