Marriott School Welcomes New Professors

James Oldroyd finds himself back in Provo working with the organizational leadership and strategy department after earning both an undergraduate degree in history in 1997 and an MBA in 2001 from BYU. Oldroyd also received a PhD from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Business. Specializing in the flow of knowledge though social networks, Oldroyd brings a wealth of knowledge from teaching and researching at Ohio State University and the SKK Graduate School of Business in South Korea. Oldroyd is multilingual, speaking Lao and Thai, and enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, Kim, and their seven children. “I look forward to being surrounded by the high caliber students who will push my thinking,” says Oldroyd.

After graduating from BYU in 2008 with a management degree in OBHR Cody Reeves returns to the Marriott School, this time on the other side of the lecture podium in the organizational leadership and strategy department. “I’m excited to be able to return to the same department and work with the professors who I looked up to then and continue to look up to today.” His research focuses on how individuals are selected to join teams and organizations and the challenges that arise during the entry process. With a PhD from the University of Iowa, Cody's work has been published in the Journal of Applied Psychology and the Oxford Handbook of Recruitment. He recognizes the legacy that BYU brings and hopes to build upon that history. “Marriott School students have a phenomenal reputation for excellence and I’m excited to help the next generation of students exceed expectations,” says Reeves. Reeves enjoys playing the guitar, exploring the outdoors and traveling with his wife, Larkin, and daughter, Rennie.

Brian Reschke joins the Marriott School as an assistant professor of entrepreneurship. With a PhD in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley, Reschke studies the social and cognitive processes whereby markets evaluate novel products, ideas and organizations. “While my class discussions will draw on the accumulated wisdom of past research and classic case studies, the ever-changing nature of business — and entrepreneurship especially — requires repeated hypothesis generation and testing,” says Reschke. In recent projects Reschke has studied the role of language in the success of crowdfunding campaigns and the implications of prestigious awards for scientific careers. He has a deep appreciation for the educational opportunities at BYU, where he earned a management degree in OBHR. When he isn’t working, Reschke enjoys running, hiking, reading and spending time with wife, Cami, and two daughters.

Tim Seidel was born and raised in Maryland. The middle of five children, Seidel served a mission to Spain before completing his undergraduate studies at BYU in finance, graduating in 2001. Seidel began his career at Ernst & Young while also pursuing a master’s degree in accounting at the University of Notre Dame. After eight years in the private sector, Seidel earned a PhD from the University of Arkansas. Before joining the accounting faculty at the Marriott School, Seidel spent one year teaching at Utah State University. “My academic position enables me to not only help improve the profession through relevant research but also to help train and prepare future professionals,” says Seidel. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Accounting Association and is a licensed CPA in the state of Florida. Seidel and his wife, Cheyenne, are the parents of four children. He loves spending time with his family, playing sports, coaching his kids’ teams and serving in the community.
