Corporate Climb: It’s all about time

PROVO, Utah — Mar 22, 2005 — Marriott School students, faculty and administrators are challenged to race the stairs for the BYU Annual Fund. The event will take place in the Tanner Building on March 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Last year was a great success and we were able to raise some money for a great cause,” says James Clark, second-year MBA student and graduate student council president. “This year is looking to be even better than last year.”

On your mark: Runners will climb the atrium stairs to the fourth floor move to the east stairwell and finish climbing to the seventh floor. They will then cross to the west stairwell and return to the first floor, creating a loop. Runners can choose to participate in seven- or three- lap races, either individually or in relay teams. Individual runners can also choose to participate in the 16-lap race, which is equivalent to running up and down the Empire State Building almost one and a half times.

Get set: Participants can run themselves or join a relay team. Individual runners are requested to give a $15 donation to the Annual Fund. Relay team members are asked to donate $10. Anyone can sponsor a runner for $5. All student contributions will be matched 5 to 1 by friends of the university. Faculty, alumni and administrator donations will be matched 1 to 1.

Go: Prizes will be awarded for fastest times, highest number of sponsors and best costumes. All participants receive a free t-shirt and refreshments.

As a new feature for this year’s race, participants can register or sponsor a runner online at marriott.byu.edu/corporateclimb/. Participants can also register in room 490 of the Tanner Building, through Friday, March 25.

The Marriott School Student Council and student chapters of the Management Society are hosting the race. Sponsors include: BYU Annual Fund; Wells Fargo; Tahitian Noni; First Capital Advisors, L.C.; KPMG; Brick Oven; Goldsmith Co. Jewelers; Panda Express and Hogi Yogi.

The Marriott School is located at Brigham Young University, the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States. The school has nationally recognized programs in accounting, business management, public management, information systems, organizational behavior and entrepreneurship. The school’s mission is to prepare men and women of faith, character and professional ability for positions of leadership throughout the world. Approximately 3,000 students are enrolled in the Marriott School’s graduate and undergraduate programs.
