Eligibility
The Marriott Research Fellows Program is available to all undergraduate students, but preference is given as follows:
- The program is designed primarily for freshmen and sophomore students who are not currently working as RAs.
- Juniors and seniors, especially those considering a graduate program within the MSB, may also be considered.
- If seats are available in a cohort, faculty may request this training for their hired undergraduate student RAs.
Commitments
- Attend class every Friday (generally from 10:00–11:50 a.m.) for 7 weeks.
- Plan to work 5–8 hours per week for assignments related to class.
- Work as an RA for a faculty mentor for the remainder of a semester (or following semester) after completing the class training portion of the program (about 5–10 hours/week).
Outcomes
- Students will have learned and developed basic skills, data searches and visualization, and vocabulary necessary to be prepared to work with faculty on research.
- Students will have completed a research portfolio that includes sample academic writing, data visualization, and certifications.
- Students will have greater confidence and awareness of their research interests and abilities, including what they individually bring to the table as a research assistant.
