There are year-round opportunities for employers to meet with thousands of BYU students and alumni to hire for full-time and part-time positions and internships. Note: There is no cost to participate in the following recruiting events.
Timeframe: 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Purpose: To promote a job posted on Handshake or an upcoming information session.
Best Time to Host: Day of an information session to encourage attendance and several days before job application deadline to give students enough time to get their resume ready.
Best Practices: Provide a treat to students and/or provide company swag and/or flyers. These events are typically anywhere between two and six hours long.
Location: Tanner Building Atrium.
Timeframe: 60 minutes from 4 – 5 p.m., 5 – 6 p.m., or 6 – 7 p.m.
Purpose: To encourage people to apply to a job that is posted on Handshake.
Best Time to Host: Evenings after classes conclude. It is best to avoid Friday evenings because business students do not have classes on Fridays, and this could result in low attendance.
Best Practices: Leave about 15 minutes at the end for Q and A. Provide refreshment and/or company swag.
Location: Classroom (70-person capacity) or hosting room (120-person capacity).
Timeframe: A few hours in one day or over the span of a few days with a short kick-off event.
Purpose: To allow students to compete to create the best solution to a business case study, within the rules and guidelines set out by the organizer. Cases may be designed for individuals or teams, and contestants must submit their work for judging by a panel.
Best Time to Host: In the evening after classes conclude.
Best Practices: Leave about 15 minutes at the end for Q and A. Provide refreshment and/or company swag.
Location: Classroom (70-person capacity) or Hosting Room (120-person capacity).
Timeframe: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Purpose: To promote a job posted on Handshake and provide recruiters and students a 1:1 informal time to meet and answer questions (also known as “Coffee Chats”).
Best Time to Host: The day after an information session is optimal to encourage interested students with remaining questions to come and connect with the recruiters 1:1.
Best Practices: Office hours should be held for at least a few hours so students can stop by in between classes.
Location: Conference rooms (10-person capacity).
Timeframe: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Purpose: To interview candidates for a job posted on Handshake.
Best Time to Host: One to two weeks after an information session is held. This allows time for the job application to be open to applicants.
Location: Interview Rooms (Three-person capacity).
Timeframe: Varies.
Purpose: To give information to students about job opportunities.
Best Time to Attend: Please talk to the client success specialist to find out dates of upcoming career fairs: msbcareercenter@byu.edu.
Location: Varies.
Timeframe: 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Purpose: To partner with a Student Academic Association in order to meet with a specific audience that matches the job description requirements.
Best Time to Host: Evenings after classes conclude is most optimal. It is best to avoid Monday evenings due to student conflicts and Friday evenings because business students do not have classes on Fridays, and this could result in low attendance.
