What is Business Management?
Guided by principles of Christlike leadership, the business management program offers a flexible, integrative curriculum that equips students with core business knowledge across key disciplines. Unlike specialized majors—such as finance, marketing, global supply chain, or human resources—this major is intentionally broad and does not emphasize deep technical training tied to specific recruiting pipelines. Instead, the business management major provides foundational exposure to multiple areas of business and is well suited for students who already have a clear plan for how they will develop their careers.
Careers in Business Management
Students in BYU Marriott programs typically begin their careers in clearly defined, entry-level roles—such as business analyst, operations analyst, marketing specialist, HR coordinator, or financial analyst—where they build functional expertise before advancing into broader managerial responsibilities.
Because early career roles usually require specific functional skill sets, students who are still exploring career options typically benefit from a specialized business major that provides focused technical preparation and structured recruiting pathways.
By contrast, the business management major is intentionally broad and is best suited for students who already have a clear post-graduation plan and do not require specialized training to secure an entry-level position. This includes:
- Those preparing for professional schools (i.e., medicine, law, and healthcare administration)
- Students involved in or preparing to take over a family business
- Students who have already secured post‑graduate employment
- Students who currently own or plan to start a business
Students who are uncertain about their career direction are encouraged to meet with a pre-business advisor to explore majors that offer stronger alignment with early-career role preparation.
