Biography:

John recently retired after serving 35 years in the health care industry; the last 23 years as CEO of Medical Associates Clinic and Health Plans located in Dubuque, Iowa. Medical Associates Clinic, P.C., established in 1924, is Iowa’s oldest physician owned multi-specialty group practice.

Under John’s leadership, Medical Associates Clinic was the first physician group in Iowa to implement electronic medical records. The first NCQA recognized level III Medical Home in Iowa, the health plan was recognized by US News and World Report as one of the top 50 commercial plans and one of the top ten Medicare plans and was one of only a few plans in the nation to receive and maintain a Medicare five-star rating.

During the past 23 years, John has been actively involved in his community serving many years on the boards of American Trust & Savings Bank, Dubuque Bank & Trust, Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, Mercy Health Foundation, Hills & Dales and United Way.

Before coming to Medical Associates in 1998, John spent 12 years with FHP, Inc., a fortune 500 staff model HMO, in Utah, Arizona and New Mexico, in several management roles including President of FHP of New Mexico. John holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Brigham Young University and a Master of Health Administration from the Marriott School of Management at BYU.

John grew up in Vancouver, Washington. He and his wife Tracy, a Provo native, are the parents of four children and the grandparents of four very handsome young men.
