Biography:

Richard Meyers has served as the City Manager of the City of Cottage Grove, Oregon (population 10,729) since October 1997. On July 10, 2023, after serving Cottage Grove as City Manager for nearly 26 years and working in local government for over 36 years, he announced his retirement beginning October 1, 2023. Prior to Cottage Grove he served as the City Manager for Myrtle Point, Oregon from 1990-1997 and as a Staff Associate with the League of Arizona Cities and Towns from 1988-1990.

Richard attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy in 1985 and a master’s in Public Administration in 1988. While earning his MPA, he served as an intern with the City of Orem. He has served on various committees with the League of Oregon Cities and in leadership positions with the Oregon City/County Management Association. Currently, he serves as the chair of the State of Oregon Scenic Bikeway Advisory Committee.

Richard and his wife, Wanda, have 4 married children and 10 grandchildren. They live in a home originally constructed in about 1895 and enjoy learning the history of the home and maintaining its charm. The entire family has always enjoyed camping (for years tent camping, now trailer camping) and spending time outdoors. They enjoy flat water kayaking and cycling. He excited to now be able to spend more time camping and kayaking with Wanda, playing with grandchildren, and relaxing during snowstorms.
