Biography:
Kent was born on Castle AFB, Atwater, California. Raised as an “air force brat,” he lived from Washington to Florida and states in between. One of the highlights of his growing-up years was living in Bonn, Germany, for three years. Kent served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Gulf States Mission.
He started his working career as a manager in marketing for Mountain Bell. Kent left Mountain Bell after seven years when AT&T was broken apart on January 1, 1984. He changed directions and pursued an interest in law enforcement.
Kent spent 32 years working for multiple law enforcement agencies including Midvale P.D., Sandy P.D., University of Utah P.D. (he wore his BYU socks while in uniform on game day), 2nd District Juvenile Court, Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, and the Utah State Attorney General’s Office.
He was one of the first gang detectives in Utah assigned to the Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit. Kent was awarded the Medal of Merit by Sandy P.D. for his actions at the Alta View Hospital hostage taking.
Kent is married to Vickie Pratt (48 years). They have four married children with 12 grandkids. They are both retired and have served an LDS Church Service Mission at the Layton Family Search Center.
