Biography:
Kent Burton is President of Burton Advisors, LLC. He is a recognized policy expert on energy, natural resource, and environmental issues at the Federal and State level, and has over 40 years of experience in Washington D.C. He has actively led major business development initiatives and project advocacy efforts in both domestic and international markets and has advised Fortune 500 corporations, major national trade associations, and political campaigns.
Mr. Burton served in the Reagan and George H.W. Bush Administrations as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere. During that time, he represented the Department of Commerce on the Cabinet Council on Energy, Natural Resources, and Environment. Mr. Burton graduated cum laude from Utah State University, with a B.A. in Political Science. He also holds an MPA from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Mr. Burton serves as a member of Southern Virginia University’s National Advisory Council. He is a Board Member of the Roble del Sur Foundation, a not-for-profit entity dedicated to the preparation and training of young professionals in South America to become more active and effective in the public square.
As a young man, Mr. Burton served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Venezuela from 1971-1973. Later, with his wife, Winnie, he served in the Church’s South America South Area (2018-2020) as a service missionary, advising on regulatory policy, media, communications, and interfaith affairs. A native of Bountiful, Utah, Mr. Burton is married to Winnie May Skidmore of Logan, Utah. They are the parents of six children.
