Marriott School Professor Named SCIP President

The Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals has elected Marriott School of Management professor Paul Dishman as its 2002-2003 president.

Dishman, a professor of Competitive Intelligence at Brigham Young University's Marriott School, served as vice president of SCIP from 2001-2002 and has organized several events including the SCIP Annual Conference, the largest gathering of Competitive Intelligence professionals in the world.

"The role of competitive and business intelligence is growing rapidly in many organizations," said Dishman. "Our objective with SCIP is to educate and inform executives about the role of competitive intelligence ."

SCIP is an international association of competitive intelligence collectors, analysts and administrators based in Alexandria, Va. The Society has more than 70 chapters worldwide and members in more than 50 nations. The organization provides professional, educational and networking resources to its members.

"Professor Dishman is an outstanding teacher and has been very effective in interesting many of our students in competitive intelligence," said Ned C. Hill, dean of the Marriott School. "I applaud SCIP for selecting such a capable leader."

In addition to his role with SCIP, Dishman's professional activities also include the American Marketing Association and the Academy of Marketing Science. He earned an MBA from North Texas State University in 1987 and a PhD from the University of North Texas in 1992.

The Marriott School is located at Brigham Young University, the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States. The school has nationally ranked programs in accounting, business management, information systems, organizational behavior and entrepreneurship. The mission of the Marriott School is to educate men and women of faith, character and professional ability who will become outstanding managers and leaders throughout the world. Approximately 3,000 students are enrolled in the Marriott School's graduate and undergraduate programs.
