General Tanner Building Policies
Tanner Building Hours
Normal Building Hours:
- Monday through Saturday: 6:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
- Sunday: Church hours as scheduled
All students will be asked to leave the Tanner Building at closing. All study rooms, classrooms, lounges, and building entrances will be locked at that time.
Event Scheduling
- Sunday-use of the Tanner Building is limited to regularly scheduled Church meetings as well as firesides for the wards and stakes which hold church meetings in the Tanner Building.
- On reading days and final exam days: NO events, social activities, or club meetings involving students may be scheduled in the building. Refer to the University Policy here for more details.
- Fundraising events and personal or family activities (including weddings or receptions) may not be held in the Tanner Building.
- Departments within the BYU Marriott School of Business may schedule events up to one year in advance. Any requests for events beyond this timeframe will not be accepted.
- University Departments outside of the Business School may schedule events up to 4 weeks in advance. Outside departments are limited to scheduling TNRB 710 or atrium spaces.
- All Monday nights are reserved for the use of Wards and Stakes which hold church meetings in the Tanner Building. Departments are not allowed to schedule Monday evenings. All events outside of church approved events must be completed by 7 p.m.
- Monday night reservations (or any other activites) for Ward and Stake activities must come from the Bishop or Stake President.
Proper Room-Use and Clean-up
- When food is brought in for classes, meetings, or events, BYU-approved caterers MUST be used, except when the food is:
- Non-perishable, pre-packaged foods served by university employees
- Carry-out/take-out
- Delivery-only (no set up or serving by the caterers or restaurant)
- For private University events with less than 20 participants
- For University-affiliated ecclesiastical units with campus scheduling privileges
- The following are PROHIBITED in the Tanner Building and will incur a $50 fee:
- Red punch or any other food types that will stain.
- Helium balloons because they can set off fire alarm sensors.
- Lit candles and liquid-fueled decorations.
- Use of highly flammable materials such as real Christmas trees that haven’t been treated with retardant.
- Small particles such as glitter and confetti.
- By the end of room reservations or class periods, trash from food and decorations must be properly cleaned up and disposed of.
- Trash which will not fit in the available trash cans must to be taken to the dumpster located on the south side of the building. The custodians are not responsible for transporting excess trash to the dumpsters.
- A $50 fee will be charged if excessive clean-up is required following an event, meeting, or class. Examples of when excessive clean-up is required include spills on the floor requiring carpet cleaning and trash that is left around the room or piled around the trash can.
- Do not use tacks or nails on walls, windows, doors, or any other part of the building. Adhesive putty is preferred and permissible. Consult with the Deans Office for exceptions.
- Nothing may be hung from any ceilings or lights. Consult with the Deans Office for exceptions.
Signage
- Signage for the purpose of advertising can be posted on the Tanner Building digital signage or at an atrium booth which must be manned during the duration of the booth reservation. Booths are not to be left unattended.
- Signage for the purpose of directing people to your event location may be used ON THE DAY of the event and must be removed after the event is over. Directional signs can be placed on easels or A-frames.
- Easels are available for check-out from the Deans Office.
- Small Signage can be hung on bulletin boards in the East wing stairwells IF IT HAS BEEN APPROVED and stamped by the Deans Office operations team. Any signage hung without the certified stamp will be removed and disposed of.

Room-Specific Policies and Procedures
Atrium Booths
To reserve a booth, contact your department office or the Deans Office, or the BCC for PDF clubs. Booth reservations are made using TeamUp.
Policies
- Use only the booth location that you reserved.
- Booths must be manned. If you do not have someone to remain at the booth during your reserved block of time, use the Tanner Building digital signage for advertising purposes rather than using an unattended booth.
- Do not move Main Atrium booth tables. Keep them in the approved locations.

Auditoriums (Rooms 151 and 251)
To reserve TNRB Auditorium 151 for Fridays between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., contact the Deans Office (byumarriottreserve@byu.edu, 2-5759) to enter the reservation in TeamUp.
To reserve TNRB Auditorium 251 for Fridays between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., contact the Deans Office (byumarriottreserve@byu.edu, 2-5759) to enter the reservation in TeamUp.
To reserve an auditorium any time other than the outlined times on Fridays, contact Campus Scheduling (2-3134).
Policies
- DO NOT bring food or drink into the auditoriums.
- If you wish to have refreshments for a meeting or event being held in an auditorium, reserve the atrium space outside the auditorium doors (Atrium 1 or 2) where food can be appropriately served and eaten.

Department Conference Rooms
To schedule a department conference room, contact the individual department.
Hosting Rooms and Atrium Event Spaces
To reserve hosting rooms and atrium event spaces, contact your department office, the Deans Office (byumarriottreserve@byu.edu, 2-5759), or the BCC for PDF clubs. Reservations are kept in TeamUp.
Policies
- If your event has fewer than 60 people, try to reserve a classroom through Campus Scheduling (2-3134) before reserving a hosting room, particularly for club events.
- Every event is required to have a minimum of a 1-hour buffer between reservation times to allow for building care to clean the room and set-up for the next event. Exceptions MUST be approved by the Deans Office.
- Complete & final setup details must be entered into the TeamUp reservation five business days prior to events in hosting rooms and atriums.
- Details include layout descriptions and images.
- If the reservation/event is a no-show without canceling in advance, the hosting department or club will incur a $50 fee.

- ONLY the custodians are to move or rearrange furniture. They will supervise all room setups and takedowns.
Rooms W408 and W410
- Only reserve the space you need. Do not reserve both rooms when your event will fit into one of them.
- To check room capacities and potential layout options, check the Hosting Rooms page.
- The kitchen next to W410 must be left clean by the end of an event, if used. Clean off and wipe down the counters, wash dishes, clear the sink, and clean the microwave. Wipe down the fridge and freezer inside and out, if needed.
Procedures
- To use the W408 and W410 projectors simultaneously, use the covered keypad in the tech podium in W410.

- Each podium in W408, W410, and 710 comes with an attached microphone and also has one wireless microphone and set of batteries stored in the podium drawer (or in the wall-attached tech podium).

Student Study and Conference Rooms
Scheduling Policy
- BYU Marriott graduate students can schedule five days out, up to two hours per day. Do not extend your reservation time by reserving 30 minute slots with an unreserved 30 minutes between them.
- Attempting to extend your reservation in this way will be flagged and reported by the system.
- BYU Marriott undergraduate students can schedule three days out, up to two hours per day.
- Non-BYU Marriott students can schedule one day out, up to two hours per day.
- Petition for exceptions can be made by non-student employees to the Deans Office by filling out the form here.
Room Use Policy
- Student study and conference rooms are for group study (two or more people). Individual study carrels are found on the west end of the second floor with no reservation required.
- Do not add or remove chairs from these rooms.
- Cancel your reservation if the room is no longer needed.
- Arrive on time and leave on time.
- Schedule adequate time for setup or cleanup.
- Users are liable for any damage that occurs in a room during the scheduled time slot.
