Healthcare Leadership Scholarship

Undergraduate and graduate students preparing for careers in the healthcare industry may apply to become a BYU Marriott School of Business Healthcare Leadership Scholar. This advanced educational opportunity provides healthcare management exposure to complement students’ developing disciplinary skills (accounting, data analytics, ethics, finance, human resources, information systems, marketing, operations management, organization behavior, strategy, supply chain management, and other specializations).

Scholarship Information and Requirements

Students may apply in the spring before they anticipate completing the class requirements for the scholarship. Preference is given to students who have completed the requirements prior to application. Acceptance is communicated by June 30. Scholarship funds are awarded after the add/drop deadline of the fall or winter semester in which the student will complete the scholarship requirements, or in the fall semester for those who previously completed the requirements.

For MBA students, the BYU Marrriott School of Business Healthcare Leadership Scholarship is a Learn-Do-Become that can be combined with any other Learn-Do-Become in the program.

Potential scholars must submit their applications to healthcare_leadership@byu.edu by May 15. Applications include a statement of interest demonstrating academic, work, volunteer, and life experiences relating to the healthcare industry in addition to future career plans, leadership experience, and other reasons they would like to be selected as a Healthcare Leadership Scholar.

HLA Participation

Experiential Learning

Completing an experiential learning opportunity is highly recommended but not required. Potential scholars are encouraged to complete a healthcare-related internship/job, volunteer hours, or healthcare-related capstone/major class project. There is not an hour requirement.
 
There are several courses with project components that could help you complete an experiential learning opportunity. For example, MSB 494R: On-Campus Experiential Projects, MSB 599R: Healthcare Internship, IS 552: MISM Capstone Project, MPA 643: Leadership in Public Admin, and many more.
