CIS students are eligible to receive a loan to cover health insurance, textbooks, and tuition as well as rent, food, and utility expenses based on need. All other expenses should be covered by students’ savings, family support, and/or employment. Students will need at least $8,000 to cover expenses not included in sponsorships that they can spend as needed. Please review your finances carefully and plan accordingly to meet the following criteria:
- Include at least $8,000 savings and personal resources in your I-1 form and record these funds under the financial support for your first year of studies. The I-1 form is part of the graduate school application that is used to prove finances
- Funds must be in your personal bank account available by the start of your BYU Marriott graduate program
Students are encouraged to use their savings as their primary source of financial support during their studies at BYU in addition to CIS loans.
