Sterling graduated from BYU with a degree in Physics. He is a partner at Workman Nydegger, a Utah law firm specializing in intellectual property. Prior to joining Workman Nydegger, he was an attorney with a prominent law firm in Washington, D.C.

Sterling and his wife, Jessica, have eight children. Along with raising kids, Sterling enjoys raising corn, pumpkins, beef, and hogs.
