Chauma is of the Navajo and Dakota people. She was born in West Valley City, Utah, and was raised in Kamas, Utah. She attended Utah Valley University where she obtained her Associate of Science in 2000, and then attended Brigham Young University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology (2003) and worked as a student teaching assistant.
Chauma graduated from the BYU MPA program in 2005, with an emphasis in human resource & nonprofit management. While at the BYU Romney Institute, she had the opportunity to intern for the State of Utah Department of Human Resource Management Office, in Salt Lake City, Utah and the National Indian Gaming Commission in Washington, D.C. After graduating, Chauma worked for the State of Utah Department of Human Resource Management as a human resource specialist. She was formerly the Executive Director for American Indian Services.
Chauma married her college sweetheart in 2001, and currently lives in Provo, Utah with her family of 4 kids, ranging in age from 6 years to 12 years. She has committed her spare time to working with her kids’ school district, participating in Native American Community events, and bridging cultural understanding between Native Americans and the communities they live in.
In her spare time, Chauma loves to organize, cook, read, garden, and spend time with her family.
