Biography:
Chauma is Sioux/Assiniboine and Navajo, and she was born and raised in Utah. She attended Utah Valley University, where she obtained her Associate of Science in 2000, and then attended Brigham Young University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology (2003) and worked as a student teaching assistant.
Chauma graduated from the BYU MPA program in 2005 with an emphasis in human resource & nonprofit management. While at the BYU Romney Institute, she had the opportunity to intern for the State of Utah Department of Human Resource Management Office in Salt Lake City, Utah and the National Indian Gaming Commission in Washington, D.C. After graduating, Chauma worked for the State of Utah Department of Human Resource Management as a human resource specialist and has also held the position of Human Resource Manager at the Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake. Chauma is currently the Executive Director of American Indian Services.
Chauma married her college sweetheart in 2001 and currently lives in Mapleton, Utah with her family of 4 kids, ranging in age from 10 years to 17 years. She has committed her spare time to advocating for Native American students, participating in Native American Community events, and bridging cultural understanding between Native Americans and the communities they live in.
In her spare time, Chauma loves to organize, cook, read, garden, and spend time with her family.
