eBusiness Web Site and Strategic Plan Competition Announced

The Marriott School Web Analytics Competition, hosted by the Rollins Center for eBusiness, is looking for an innovative student team. Past eBusiness competitions have challenged student teams to design Web sites or come up with creative solutions to improve existing sites. This semester the eBusiness Center has teamed with Omniture to present a new competition allowing anyone with critical thinking skills to compete.

BYU Info Systems Students Place at National Conference

Marriott School information systems students received top marks during the National Collegiate Conference in Atlanta April 7-9. BYU students placed first and second in a database design contest and received honorable mentions for system analysis and design. About 800 students representing 88 schools across the nation attended this year’s conference.

Info Systems Students Are Top Competitors at National Competition

Brigham Young University information systems students earned top marks in their first appearance at the National Collegiate Conference (NCC) in West Lafayette, Ind. Two of the six students from BYU’s Marriott School of Management scored among the top three in individual competitions.

Grad Leads Wharton MBA Group on African Adventure

When Rob Smoot earned his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, he wanted to shout it from the mountaintops. Smoot celebrated the culmination of his education by leading forty fellow students to Africa's highest point the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro 19,341 feet above the vast African plains.

Marriott School Adds New Information Systems Major

Beginning Fall 2002, students at Brigham Young University will be able to earn a bachelor's of science degree in information systems. The new major, offered through the Marriott School of Management, will replace the information-systems emphasis in the business-management program.

Alum Succeeds as Olympic Athlete and CEO

Many people would be content with running the semifinals of the 100x4 meter relay in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games. Not Kenneth Andam; he plans to compete again in the 2004 games and bring home a medal. However, his wins aren't only on the track. He is lapping competitors on the business fast track as well. Andam earned a double BS in information systems and economics from BYU in 2000 and is now a graduate student at BYU studying mass communications. His education gives him the technical and analytical skills he needs to compete in the global economy.

Marriott School Professor Receives Maeser Teaching Award

Marriott School Professor James D. Stice of the School of Accountancy and Information Systems Management has been awarded the Karl G. Maeser Excellence in Teaching Award by President Merrill J. Bateman at the annual University Conference. He was selected as one of three teachers university wide to receive one of the most prestigious awards given to BYU faculty.
