COMPETITION REWARDS SAVVY BUSINESS PLANS

A great business venture starts with a great idea. The Ballard Center’s Social Venture Academy encourages student entrepreneurs to jump-start businesses with mentoring and cash prizes throughout three different stages of development: idea validation, product development, and execution. Students recently participated in the first stage by submitting videos for the Best Idea Competition.

“We asked entrants, ‘What is the problem you’re trying to solve?’ We wanted to see ideas that are financially impactful yet sustainable, replicable, and scalable,” explains Michael Hsiung, one of the student directors of the Social Venture Academy. “This is just the first phase of what the Social Venture Academy has to offer.”

Entrants were judged and awarded $50 to $100 to invest in their business ideas, and there was also a $200 Audience Choice award. Click the pictures below to watch a few of the entries on Facebook.
