Norman Nemrow, professor of accountancy at the Marriott School of Management, received the 47th Governor's Points of Light Award for his volunteer work at Brigham Young University. Nemrow has been a full-time volunteer at BYU since 1992 — donating both his time and his teaching salary to the university.
Thanks to a previously successful business career, Nemrow is in a position to contribute back the full amount of his university paycheck. "I love the spirit of BYU. I get so much more from this university than I am able to give back," Nemrow said. "I believe donating my time is an appropriate way to contribute to the great mission of BYU."
Nemrow's enthusiasm for teaching and love for BYU is also recognized by his 900+ students per semester. His students have voiced their appreciation for his entertaining and informative classes through excellent teacher evaluations and by twice selecting him as the Students Alumni Association's " Overall Teacher of the Year."
"I love teaching and the association I have with my students and my colleagues," Nemrow said. "Besides great seats at BYU football games, my students and colleagues are the best part of teaching at BYU."
The Marriott School is located at Brigham Young University, the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States. The school has nationally and internationally ranked programs in accountancy, business management, information systems, organizational behavior and entrepreneurship. The mission of the Marriott School focuses on education, research, outreach and friendship to train men and women to become outstanding leaders in a global environment. Approximately 3,000 students are enrolled in the Marriott School's graduate and undergraduate programs.
