Marriott School Honors Top Faculty

The Marriott School at Brigham Young University honored Robert L. Gardner with the school’s 2001 Outstanding Faculty Award, the highest distinction given by the school to a faculty member. Along with Gardner, the school also recognized five other faculty members for their excellence in teaching, research and citizenship at a banquet 6 March in the Wilkinson Student Center.

“Robert Gardner is delightful to work with,” said Ned C. Hill, dean of the Marriott School. “He contributes to everything the Marriott School does.”

Robert Gardner

Gardner, a professor of accountancy, joined the Marriott School in 1979 and serves as the associate director of the School of Accountancy and Information Systems. He is a member of the American Accounting Association Council and is former president and current trustee of the American Taxation Association. In addition, Gardner serves as a member of the Board of Advisors for the Utah Valley State College Accounting Department and the Utah CPA Education Review Committee. He is the author or co-author of three books and numerous articles. Gardner has also served on the National Tax Academic Advisory Boards of both Ernst & Young and Deloitte & Touche.

Gardner encouraged those at the banquet to remain true to unchanging values of integrity, kindness, understanding and hard work. “I’m thankful to BYU alumni for setting an example of ethical leadership,” he said.

Sheri Bischoff, assistant professor of organizational behavior and Andrew Holmes, professor of business management, were honored with Marriott School teaching excellence awards; Gary Cornia, professor of public management and Stan Fawcett, professor of business management, were honored with Marriott School research awards; and Bill Baker, professor of management communication, was honored with a Marriott School citizenship award.

The Marriott School is located at Brigham Young University, the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States. The school has nationally ranked programs in accounting, business management, information systems, organizational behavior and entrepreneurship. The mission of the Marriott School is to educate men and women of faith, character and professional ability who will become outstanding managers and leaders throughout the world. Approximately 3,000 students are enrolled in the Marriott School’s graduate and undergraduate programs.
