Elder Morrison Named Administrator of the Year

The Romney Institute of Public Management at Brigham Young University’s Marriott School named Elder Alexander B. Morrison, emeritus member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as its Administrator of the Year.

“Elder Morrison’s example of ethical and moral commitment as well as his years of untiring public service make him a deserving choice for Administrator of the Year,” said Robert Parsons, chair of the Romney Institute.

Elder Morrison was named a member of the Church’s First Quorum of the Seventy on April 4, 1987. He served as president of the Church’s Utah North and the North America Southeast Areas. At the time of his call, Elder Morrison was a professor and chairman of the Food Science Department at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. Previously, he served as assistant deputy minister of the Department of National Health and Welfare of the Government of Canada in Ottawa. Elder Morrison earned a PhD from Cornell University.

Elder Morrison addressed faculty, students and guests at a banquet held in his honor. He spoke of the opportunities and challenges of globalization. “The world is becoming, in effect, smaller, more integrated and more interrelated,” Morrison said. “Each of us . . . has to learn to deal with the increasingly complex economic, social and environmental problems in the non-linear system which represents the world around us.”

The Romney Institute of Public Management was named in 1998 for three-term Michigan Governor George W. Romney. Part of the Marriott School at Brigham Young University, the Romney Institute offers a master’s degree in public administration through both pre-service and executive programs. The Romney Institute has a long tradition of preparing young people for careers in public service and is dedicated to educating men and women of faith, character and professional ability who will become outstanding managers and leaders in public and not-for-profit institutions worldwide. Brigham Young University is the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States.
