The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants appointed Marriott School Professor Douglas Prawitt to its Auditing Standards Board. The board consists of 19 members who set auditing standards for private companies, nonprofit organizations as well as state and local governments.
“This is a great honor for Doug,” says Ned C. Hill, Marriott School dean. “He is an excellent researcher and teacher who is also known nationally. I’m confident he will help guide the auditing practice through some difficult times.”
Under the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations, of which the AICPA is a member, Prawitt chaired the Small Business Guidance Task Force subgroups dealing with risk assessment, control activities and information-technology issues.
Prawitt joined the Marriott School faculty in 1993. In 2002 he received the Merrill J. Bateman Student Choice Teaching Award and in 2001 was recognized with the University Young Scholar Fellowship Award. He has also published more than 20 articles and given some 30 presentations across the country.
Prawitt graduated summa cum laude from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Accountancy degree. He later earned a Doctorate of Business Administration degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson.
The Marriott School is located at Brigham Young University, the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States.
