A new year presents many exciting prospects and possibilities—a fresh, 365 days lie ahead, and with them come opportunities to get involved and do good in your community.
If one of your resolutions is to make a difference, the Ballard Center of Economic Self-Reliance can help you reach your goals. Here are five ways students can get involved with social innovation in 2016:
- Do an on-campus internship
Social Innovation Projects is an internship program that allows students to work on projects for top-tier social organizations, like Ashoka and Google Community Leaders. Students from all majors can make a difference right on campus by creating solutions for worldwide problems such as poverty and illiteracy.
- Attend TedxBYU
Learn from dynamic speakers and network with creative social innovators at the next TedxBYU event on 24 March. You just might leave with an idea or two!
- Take a class with the Ballard Center
The Ballard Center boasts exciting class offerings that teach you what it takes to become a changemaker. “Do Good Better” (BUS M 375) helps students from all majors discover ways they can get involved in social innovation.
- Enter the Social Innovation Case Competition
In this two-week competition, students put their skills to the test and help solve a real-time problem for a Ballard Center partner organization. You and your team could walk away with $3,000 in cash!
- Get involved with Y-Prize
Want to make the world better, but missing an idea? If so, the Ballard Center has your back. 2016’s Y-Prize competition introduces two solutions to world problems and asks for you to find a way to make sure the solutions reach actual people in need. You and a team can participate in the Solar Challenge or the Newborn Challenge.
So ring in the New Year right by getting involved with social good at the Ballard Center.
