BYU Grad Named Dean of Michigan’s Ross School of Business

Marriott School alumna Alison Davis-Blake was recently named dean of the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. She will become the first female dean in the top-10 business school's storied history.

"Alison represents everything good about academics," says Gary Cornia, dean of the Marriott School. "She is an exceptional scholar and teacher. We are very proud to count Alison among the graduates of the Marriott School of Management and Brigham Young University."

Davis-Blake earned her bachelor's degree in economics from BYU in 1979 and her master's in organizational behavior from BYU in 1982. She earned her PhD in organizational behavior from Stanford in 1986 before entering the world of academia, with teaching positions at Carnegie Mellon, University of Texas and the University of Minnesota. She currently serves as dean of the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Previously she was the senior associate dean at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. Davis-Blake will take the helm of the Ross School in August 2011.

The Marriott School is located at Brigham Young University, the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States. The school has nationally recognized programs in accounting, business management, public management, information systems and entrepreneurship. The school's mission is to prepare men and women of faith, character and professional ability for positions of leadership throughout the world. Approximately 3,000 students are enrolled in the Marriott School's graduate and undergraduate programs.

A New Field of Vision

Blaine Meek’s pivot from finance to farming was kickstarted, quite literally, by a cow. When a cow kicked Meek’s father on their family farm in Idaho, Meek wrapped up his finals and hurried home to help. As he dug into the work, he caught the vision of farming and never let go.
