Maybe you’re not sporting a fluffy white beard or a big red coat, but this holiday season you can play Santa for local families in need.
In partnership with the United Way of Utah County, the Marriott School is hosting Sub for Santa, an annual initiative that’s been part of the Marriott School giving efforts for more than 20 years.
“It is neat to have the opportunity to serve a specific family one-on-one and help them receive a Christmas,” says Brit Harding, a pre-management sophomore and Marriott School student council events committee cochair. “I may not be able to donate all of the money that's needed on my own for one child or one family, but Marriott School students, faculty and staff can impact those families together.”
This year, the committee is aiming to provide gifts for fifty individuals. A booth located on the first floor of the Tanner Building will be available to collect and donate gifts from 16 November-7 December. Donation details are listed on the event website.
“What I love most about Sub for Santa is that we are impacting families that are right here in Utah County so that they have a Christmas,” says Lauren Collins, fellow committee cochair and a finance senior. “Sub for Santa embodies the Christmas spirit and it always feels good to serve those that are less fortunate.”
The Marriott School is located at Brigham Young University, the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States. The school has nationally recognized programs in accounting, business management, entrepreneurship, finance, information systems and public management. The school’s mission is to prepare men and women of faith, character and professional ability for positions of leadership throughout the world. Approximately 3,300 students are enrolled in the Marriott School’s graduate and undergraduate programs.
