Two BYU Marriott School of Business professors were honored at this year’s University Conference, which was held on August 27. The professors, Colby Wright and Troy Nielson, were recognized for their significant contributions to the continued establishment and development of the university.
“All of us at BYU Marriott were delighted to hear the news of these awards being extended to Colby Wright and Troy Nielsen,” says Michael Thompson, interim dean of the BYU Marriott School of Business. “Both of these wonderful colleagues are marvelous teachers and both are fully committed to the growth and welfare of their students. I’ve conversed with many students over the years who have expressed their appreciation and respect for these two great faculty members.”
Colby Wright, associate professor of finance, received a Karl G. Maeser Excellence in Teaching Award. This award recognizes faculty members for outstanding teaching accomplishments. Wright, who has been with BYU Marriott since 2012, was one of three recipients.
“It warms my heart to know that my department chair, deans, and colleagues see significant value in the efforts I’ve devoted to teaching,” Wright says. “Being recognized by one’s peers and mentors is a special experience.”
That recognition was also extended to Troy Nielson, associate professor of organizational behavior and human resources, who received the Dean Fairbanks Teaching and Learning Faculty Fellowship. Nielson was one of six faculty members who were awarded a Teaching and Learning Faculty Fellowship, which honors the sacrifice and efforts made to enhance teaching and learning at the university.
“Receiving this fellowship is a big honor and quite humbling to me given the high number of outstanding teachers here at BYU,” Nielson says. “The recognition came as an unexpected, pleasant surprise, and I will continue to focus on inspiring student learning.”
