Brigham Young University's Business and Law Schools in U.S. News Top 50

Brigham Young University's business and law schools are among the top 50 in the United States, reports the 2001 edition of the U.S. News & World Report guide "Best Graduate Schools."

The J. Reuben Clark Law School is ranked 32nd in the nation, and the Marriott School is ranked 42nd.

Yale University tops the nation's law schools, while Harvard University and Stanford University are in a first-place tie in the business school rankings. The April 10 issue of U.S. News (on newsstands April 3) will contain select rankings. The guidebook, with all rankings and other features, goes on sale the same day.

All of the rankings and articles from "Best Graduate Schools" will also be available from U.S. News Online www.usnews.com.

Rankings for the nation's accredited law and business schools are based on school reputation, placement success and student selectivity. The law schools have a fourth category, which is "faculty resources."

"While the best measure of our law school is the integrity of our graduates," said Dean H. Reese Hansen of the J. Reuben Clark Law School, "it is gratifying to be ranked highly in a national poll."

Said Dean Ned C. Hill of the Marriott School, "We are very pleased with our positive movement in the rankings, advancing from 49th to 42nd. The gains we've made reflect the fine quality of our students and faculty and our growth as an international business school."

Hill said, "We are also happy that the expansion of career services at the business school is beginning to pay off in terms of earning a stronger reputation among some of the best companies in the country, who are also beginning to recruit more heavily at BYU."

U.S. News first ranked graduate schools in 1987 and has done so annually since 1990.
