Accounting's Troy Lewis Testifies at House Hearing

Troy Lewis, a Brigham Young University School of Accountancy alum and current adjunct professor, testified July 22 at a hearing held by the Small Business Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives titled, "How Tax Compliance Obligations Hinder Small Business Growth."

Lewis is chairman of the American Institute of CPAs Tax Executive Committee and vice president and chief enterprise risk management officer at Heritage Bank in St. George, Utah. He has served as an adjunct in the School of Accountancy since 2012 teaching Accounting 405 - Fundamentals of Taxation.

Lewis, one of five expert witnesses at the hearing, presented a five-minute opening statement then took questions from members of the committee.The hearing examined the tax compliance burden facing small firms and the effectiveness of actions taken by the Internal Revenue Service intended to reduce these compliance costs.
