GIFTRY: STRESS-FREE HOLIDAY GIVING

Don’t know what to get a family member or friend for Christmas this year? Dreading those Black Friday lines?

You’re not alone. Picking out the perfect gift can raise your anxiety as high as the star topper on your Christmas tree. It only takes one wrong gift to swing your holidays from holly jolly to ho hum.

Lucky for you, former Target strategist and Marriott School alum Brandon Wright developed an app to take the stress out of gift-giving and help you find the perfect presents for everyone on your holiday list.

Giftry, cofounded by Wright and chief technology officer Jason Cox in 2014, is a free app that allows you to create mobile wish-lists that you can update year-round.

Giftry is not limited to a single retailer’s inventory. You can add items from anywhere on the web or scan barcodes of physical products from the smartphone app to create your list. It allows you to connect with friends and family in a unique way as you share gift ideas, helping you get what they actually want for the holidays.

“One of the things that always frustrated me was that everything is so closed off in retail,” Wright says. “We really hope to see Giftry as a consumer advocate for the shopper.”

Disrupting the retail industry and changing how family and friends give gifts are successes spawning from Wright’s Marriott School experience in the management program.

“At BYU, they try to teach you to think outside the box,” he says. “Classes there really opened my mind to things that I could do, specifically starting my own business. That was something I always thought I wanted to do, but I never really knew how to do it, or how to even start.”

The Giftry app is downloadable for both iOS and Android devices.
