MBA Students Win Investment Competition

In an economy characterized by receding retirement funds and a volatile stock market, a group of BYU MBA students beat the odds – and 18 other universities - to earn a 32 percent return on their portfolio. Sponsors of the competition, brokerage firm D.A. Davidson & Co., awarded the Marriott School's Peery Institute with a $7,000 check for successfully managing the company's $50,000 investment portfolio throughout last year.

Info Systems Students Are Top Competitors at National Competition

Brigham Young University information systems students earned top marks in their first appearance at the National Collegiate Conference (NCC) in West Lafayette, Ind. Two of the six students from BYU’s Marriott School of Management scored among the top three in individual competitions.

Property Solutions Wins Business Plan Competition

Property Solutions LLC took first place at the 2003 Marriott School Business Plan Competition. The company provides an integrated software solution for property management companies. My Carnivore, a company that sells carnivorous pet plants, took second place. Tying for third place were Dierevo, a company developing technology to create renewable energy solutions, and StrollerWorks, a company which offers a new reversible jogging stroller.

Marriott School Students Win First and Second Place in National Tax Competition

Accounting Students Place Second in National Case Competition

Five accounting students from the Marriott School at Brigham Young University cooly handled the pressures faced by auditors — placing second in national competition. Graduate students Brent Pugh, Troy Sheen, Heather Madsen, Josh Rowley and Ryan Oviatt participated in the Deloitte & Touche Foundation’s Fifth Annual National Student Case Study Seminar. The seminar placed teams in practical business settings with case studies developed by the firm’s accounting research department.

The stock market’s recent slump has left one BYU Marriott School student feeling anything but down. On the contrary, Nathan Gardner, an undergraduate business management major, beat out 2,100 students and faculty to win the iExchange.com$100,000 Business School Challenge.

Marriott School Students Score Double Honors in National Tax Competition

Accounting students at Brigham Young University's Marriott School did what was thought to be the impossible in 1998, placing among the top three schools at both the undergraduate and graduate levels of the nation's most prestigious tax competition.
