Alumna to Become the Highest-Ranking Female Dean in the United States

Alison Davis-Blake, senior associate dean for academic affairs at The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business, has been named dean of the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. When she begins her term at the Carlson School in July 2006, Davis-Blake will be the school’s first female dean, as well as the highest-ranking female dean at any business school in the United States.

His most recent surprise is that he has written a guide to being a movie producer. This media-savvy legal counsel never really meant to go into showbiz, it was simply unavoidable.

Today this Marriott School alum is president of M2 Group, a fast-growing, Mesa, Arizona-based civil engineering firm. Founded in 1998 by Montoya and Tom Palmer, M2 Group has grown from three employees in one location to more than ninety employees in three locations including Mexico.

Alum Selected as Head Coach of U.S.A. Men’s Volleyball Team

Most MBA graduates put their degrees to use in the boardrooms of the business world. Marriott School alum Hugh McCutcheon, however, took his to the locker room and the arena of international volleyball. The former BYU men’s volleyball assistant coach recently took the job as head coach of the U.S. Olympic Men’s Volleyball Team. He replaces longtime coach Doug Beal, who became CEO of USA Volleyball.

Graduate Serves with Perpetual Education Fund

When John McKinney graduated with his MBA last August, he wasn’t the only member of his family walking across the stage. He was joined by his wife, April, who earned her BS in community health, and their son, Collin, who earned his MA in Spanish literature. Then, one week after their graduation, John and April began serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, working for the Perpetual Education Fund (PEF). President Gordon B. Hinckley announced the PEF in 2001. In a January 2004 Ensign article, Elder John K. Carmack says the PEF was designed to “provide loans to help worthy returned missionaries and other young Latter-day Saint adults gain the training and education necessary for adequate employment in their own countries.”
