In a world of endless job listings requiring extensive qualifications, pursuing a career can seem overwhelming. But for Natalie Nyman, helping people land their dream jobs is her dream job. Nyman, a 2018 human resource management graduate from BYU Marriott, is currently working for Qualtrics as a sales recruiter.
Nyman spent her first two years at BYU preparing to apply for BYU Marriott’s accounting and finance programs, but two days before the application deadline, she changed her mind. The human resources program had caught her eye.
She didn’t recognize it at the time, but Nyman had been preparing for a career in HR long before coming to BYU. In high school, Nyman volunteered as a state representative for Distinguished Young Women, an organization that combines scholarship opportunities with life-skills trainings to prepare young women for the world after high school. While volunteering as a state representative, Nyman developed a love for helping these young women reach new heights by conducting trainings and hosting interviews.
Nyman’s love for HR was solidified though her employment by the BYU Marriott Business Career Center. “My experience with the Business Career Center defined my whole experience at BYU,” Nyman reminisces. The employees at the Business Career Center became Nyman’s family and helped her discover the precise kind of culture she wanted at a full-time job. This sense of family is exactly what led her to become a sales recruiter at Qualtrics.
Looking forward to work every day can be a rarity for people, but for Nyman, it's a daily reality. Nyman adores her Qualtrics family and explains that her co-workers quickly became her friends. “I know that they actually care about me as a person, and that is because of the culture Qualtrics has cultivated,” remarks Nyman.
Nyman explains that the culture of a company is closely related to personal success. “Look for a company that fits your personality,” advises Nyman. “At Qualtrics, we look for someone who will come in and make it a family.” Other things Nyman looks for when conducting recruiting interviews is someone “driven, personable, and dedicated, and someone who has ability to juggle different responsibilities.”
Attributes such as work ethic and dedication can be seen firsthand in Nyman herself. Nyman interned with PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2016 and with Cisco in 2017, before graduating with honors from BYU Marriott. Nyman expresses immense gratitude for the increasing list of work responsibilities that push her to be her best.
This summer you can find Nyman, who recently married her husband Daniel, overseeing all of the Dallas and Provo sales interns. Within this leadership position, she’s learning a great deal from “the energy that the interns bring to their roles and the office.” Nyman conducts one-on-one meetings with each sales intern to learn more about them, ensure a great summer experience, and help them set goals for the future. Assisting in the growth of these interns has been the most rewarding experience she's had thus far in her career with Qualtrics.
Nyman is undeniably devoted to HR, but her passion wasn’t found under a rock—it was grown. “Passions are developed rather than discovered, like a sunset rather than a light bulb,” says Nyman. Because of the countless opportunities she has seized, Nyman has been able to test out different aspects of HR to find where she is happiest. She is currently growing and learning more every day at Qualtrics, making her job her dream come true.
