A Perfect Puzzle
Priscilla Hobbs Nugent grew up watching her parents run the family business and wondering what it took to make operations run well. After witnessing the nationwide recession in 2008, Nugent decided to pursue a career in finance, eventually enrolling at BYU Marriott and discovering the answer to her childhood wonderings. “I have loved what I learned in the BYU Marriott program and the opportunities it has provided me thus far,” Nugent says.

From MBA to the Mountains

BYU Marriott MBA alum Thayne O’Brien chose a different route. While an MBA student, O’Brien worked in Grand Teton National Park during the summers. As he neared the end of his MBA program in 1971, he realized the skills he’d learned at BYU Marriott could be used outside of the traditional business field.

Flying in the Forgotten War
Quick transitions between life events have always been part of Merle Allen’s unofficial strategy for most of his life. At BYU’s 1954 graduation dance, the marketing grad, senior class president, and former varsity football player proposed to his sweetheart, Carol Beckstrand. After the MC announced the happy news, Allen says they then rushed to Beckstrand’s parents’ home to “tell her folks so we’d get to them before somebody else did.”
