Prompt
Wireless headphones are the accessory in everyone’s hand, and no one leaves the house without them. The product that seems to always accompany our headphones is the popular silicone case cover. However, there is not one brand or style that stands out as a leading brand for silicone cases. That being the situation, this year we would like your team to respond to a client who is looking to create and market a new brand of silicone cases to high schoolers in your respective language demographic.
Questions to consider (not necessarily to be all answered):
- What would you name the company? Why?
- What are the interests of your demographic?
- What colors and patterns would you choose?
- Would you use team names, flags, icon images, characters, etc. in your product design?
- What would be the main uses of your product for high schoolers of your language and how would you market it to those uses?
- What would you change about the typical case look to be of more interest to your demographic?
- How would you price the case?
- Is Silicone the right material? Would you source another material for your cases?
- Which platforms would you sell your product on?
- What are the best marketing strategies or mediums for your demographic?
- What would your message be? How would you market these cases?
The Marriott School of Business at BYU is proud to present a virtual High School Business Language Competition (HSBLC) taking place Friday, April 29, 2022. The HSBLC provides an opportunity for high school students to apply their business and language skills outside their school environment, develop their presentation abilities, and use their creativity all while developing a business plan.
Each team must consist of three high school students that are currently enrolled in the sponsoring high school.
The competition will consist of two parts: a business plan development and a business plan presentation.
Business Plan Development
Each team will be given a product to market to a specific demographic. They will have approximately two weeks to learn about the product, learn about the target market, and develop a business plan to effectively market the product. You can find the marketing challenge on the Marketing Plan Prompt page.
Business Plan Presentation
Students will email their presentation and their business plans to businesslanguage@byu.edu on April 28, 2022, by 12:00 Noon (MST) A typed executive summary is also required.
