Experience Industry Management Conference
About the Conference
In 1999 Joseph Pine and James Gilmore proposed experiences as the fourth economic offering after commodities, goods, and services. They suggested those organizations that were able to provide meaningful experiences to their customers would rise above the commoditized competition. In 2008, Gary Ellis and Bob Rossman built upon this experience economy concept and proposed a new industry categorization, experience industries. As they noted, “the expanding set of industries that are related to traditional park, recreation, and tourism [offerings] share a common purpose: all are fundamentally in the business of staging quality experiences that are valued by guests, participants, clients, patients, or students.”
The next conference will take place March 20-21, 2014. This two-day event held on campus at BYU will bring together leading academics and professionals from a variety of disciplines and industries to collaboratively converse on all things experience related. The dress for the event is business casual.
