In order to help global supply chain management (GSCM) students prepare for the disasters they will respond to in the workforce, associate professor Barry Brewer invited Kathy Fulton, executive director of American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN), to run a disaster simulation at the BYU Marriott School of Business.

When Jacobo Ignacio Grimaldo Alvarez was five years old, his family moved from Monterrey, Mexico, to Mesa, Arizona. Though navigating the world as an immigrant can be a struggle, Grimaldo continues to press forward through life’s wilderness. Now a global supply chain management senior and a copresident in BYU Marriott School of Business’s Student Leadership Advisory Council, Grimaldo helps others find belonging and community by leaning on the lessons he learned growing up.

In an increasingly connected world, learning how to interact with different groups of people can open doors of opportunity and learning. That’s why Bryson Schellenberg, student at BYU Marriott, spent a year studying and working in Germany where he connected with people from all over the world.

With over 20 years of experience in the United States Air Force, Barry Brewer has lived in many locations. As an associate professor of global supply chain at the BYU Marriott School of Business, Brewer has come to understand that living all over the world brings variety, but living in the moment brings happiness.

An avid “peak-bagger,” Brett Hathaway spends much of his free time summiting mountains. While his own career path has seemed like a long trail traversing varying professional pursuits, Hathaway—now a new assistant professor of global supply chain in the BYU Marriott School of Business—feels uniquely equipped to provide perspective to students in their own journeys.

BYU Marriott School of Business dean Brigitte C. Madrian has announced the appointment of Ryan Elder as the next chair of the Department of Marketing and Global Supply Chain. Elder took over for the previous department chair, S. Tom Foster, on July 1, 2023.

For Parker Teshima, working as a Walmart merchant entails much more than negotiating with suppliers. A global supply chain management alumnus from BYU Marriott, Teshima ensures that shelves stay stocked with vital emergency preparedness items so people can purchase supplies even when natural disasters strike.

Searching for a career where she could pursue her passions and use her skills, Lexi Shaw turned to the BYU Marriott School of Business and discovered an unlikely candidate: global supply chain management. This program helped Shaw, now a senior, find her niche in the field and lace up her shoes for a fashion internship in New York City.

Two years ago, Isaac Briganti had no idea what to major in. Now, thanks to the global supply chain management (GSCM) program at the BYU Marriott School of Business, Briganti has impressive internship experience under his belt and a job waiting for him at global industrial company Grainger.

The BYU Marriott School of Business welcomed 12 new professors this fall.

Through an intense, amplified game of capture the flag, the newest global supply chain management (GSCM) students at BYU’s Marriott School of Business accomplished more than just having fun or winning. This activity, plus other games and presentations, constituted a unique strategy to help the 120 incoming GSCM students build strong connections in preparation for the opportunities and challenges of their first year.

For nearly a week during the busy Halloween season, 24 teams of global supply chain management juniors from the BYU Marriott School of Business took on a blizzard of additional work by competing in a case competition hosted by snowmobile giant Polaris. In addition to vying for the $4,000 first-place prize, student teams aimed to render impact by finding practical solutions to the company’s real-life problem.

Bryn Sieverts was always fascinated with the concept of business. As a young boy growing up in Bountiful, Utah, Sieverts set up a popsicle stand on a street corner in his neighborhood to earn some extra cash. In high school, he participated in DECA competitions, which teach students about business and leadership. Sieverts, now a BYU Marriott School of Business alumnus in global supply chain management (GSCM), continues to use his passion for business and the valuable lessons he’s learned at BYU to help him in his career.  

Katie Weddle doesn’t remember much from the accident that almost took her life. Serving as a missionary in Malaysia, Weddle was riding her bike with other sister missionaries when she was hit by a car.  

On August 4, 2022, approximately 60 people from the global supply chain management (GSCM) program at the BYU Marriott School of Business gathered for an annual event designed to bring together alumni and students. During this year’s event, held at Rock Canyon in Provo, barbeque was served and conversations were shared.  

In 2010 sophomore Joe Bodily stood in the middle of a BYU career fair. He was determined to find a career path he could be passionate about. As his eyes scanned the room, he was drawn to a sign taped to a table that read, “Global Supply Chain Management.” He approached the professor standing at the table and began asking questions about the major. As he started to learn more about the field, he began to consider the possibility of pursuing a career in global supply chain management (GSCM). 

When Raena Hay Yong Lau is not helping her sisters run a food blog for those with dietary restrictions, she is studying global supply chain management (GSCM) at the BYU Marriott School of Business. An international student from Hong Kong, Lau has grown and evolved through many challenges during her time at BYU.

Meeting refugees during his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tokyo solidified Cade Hyde’s desire to have a career in social impact. His ability to pursue his goals increased through opportunities at the Ballard Center for Social Impact at the BYU Marriott School of Business.

If photography, traveling, reading, finding the best natural light for her plants, and spoiling her puppy were not enough activities to fill her time, Rebekah Brau also has a drive for researching why humans do what they do. Brau, a recent addition to the faculty for the GSCM program at BYU Marriott, thrives off of sharing her many passions with her students.

This school year, BYU students from the Global Supply Chain Association (GSCA) and the Black Student Union (BSU) partnered together for the first time and collected shoes to donate to children in Africa. The two student groups exceeded their goals and made their mark on both BYU campus and the global community.
