    For nearly a week during the busy Halloween season, 24 teams of global supply chain management juniors from the BYU Marriott School of Business took on a blizzard of additional work by competing in a case competition hosted by snowmobile giant Polaris. In addition to vying for the $4,000 first-place prize, student teams aimed to render impact by finding practical solutions to the company’s real-life problem.

    Bryn Sieverts was always fascinated with the concept of business. As a young boy growing up in Bountiful, Utah, Sieverts set up a popsicle stand on a street corner in his neighborhood to earn some extra cash. In high school, he participated in DECA competitions, which teach students about business and leadership. Sieverts, now a BYU Marriott School of Business alumnus in global supply chain management (GSCM), continues to use his passion for business and the valuable lessons he’s learned at BYU to help him in his career.

    In 2010 sophomore Joe Bodily stood in the middle of a BYU career fair. He was determined to find a career path he could be passionate about. As his eyes scanned the room, he was drawn to a sign taped to a table that read, “Global Supply Chain Management.” He approached the professor standing at the table and began asking questions about the major. As he started to learn more about the field, he began to consider the possibility of pursuing a career in global supply chain management (GSCM).

    This school year, BYU students from the Global Supply Chain Association (GSCA) and the Black Student Union (BSU) partnered together for the first time and collected shoes to donate to children in Africa. The two student groups exceeded their goals and made their mark on both BYU campus and the global community.
