FAQ
Do I need to bring a sleeping bag to Spring Haven?
There are Eight bedrooms with a total of six queen beds and 32 twin mattresses. All women will have a bed. Very few men will have a bed.
Men should bring a sleeping bag (a pad if you have it) and a pillow.
There is a lot of floor space and couches to sleep on.
What should I pack?
A change of clothing, some sleeping clothes (appropriate for mixed company), and a towel. Athletic clothing/shoes if you want to play gym activities.
This is a casual event so casual dress is encouraged – honor code compliant dress please.
Do I need to bring food or snacks?
No. There will be more than enough food, drinks and snacks for everyone.
What toiletries should I bring?
Spring Haven provides showers, soap, and toilet paper. Anything else you need - you need to bring.
Can I drive on my own?
Unless driving there is a necessity, it is discouraged. There will be vans available for the trip up and back. Parking at Spring Haven is limited.
Can I park my car overnight at the Tanner Building?
No. But BYU parking says it is ok to park overnight in Lot 37Y (near the football indoor practice facility) if you have a Y parking permit. I have been told there is no overnight parking without a permit.
What/where is Spring Haven?
This website gives a good walkthrough and overview. Directions are in the “Contact Us” tab
Can I bring my spouse or guest?
No. This event is your orientation to the program, so we need your undivided attention.
What is the agenda for the program?
The overall agenda is attached. Rather than a single guest speaker – we have several alumni from the GSCM major coming to talk to you about how to succeed in the program and how the program has helped them. There is also free time to get to know your classmates.
Will the faculty attend this event?
Most of the faculty will be there for dinner on Friday night. One faculty member will stay overnight in the posh, master bedroom as a chaperone.
