"America Boxed In" is a documentary film about the “heart of the global economy” –the freight container. This mere metal box transformed the entire world into next-door neighbors and fostered extraordinary economic prosperity. At the same time, it has put a stunning number of unprecedented threats in the global spotlight. It has shifted the flow of power away from nations to forces that respect no borders. In so doing, it has engendered a never seen before struggle for power to every corner of the world. It has highlighted the seismic political divisions demonstrated by the historic Brexit and Trump votes that are now sweeping across the globe. And, it has supercharged China’s global influence and helped them redraw the economic and political map of the 21st century. "America Boxed In" is a story that exposes the profound contradictions that lie at the heart of globalization.
With hundreds of honors from around the world, “America Boxed In” has established itself as a must-see documentary. Notable awards include winning the “Gold Remi” award at the 2022 WorldFest Houston festival, the “Award of Merit” at the 2023 Impact Docs Awards, and the “Best of Show” award from the 2022 Depth of Field International Film Festival Competition. But when Jiajia arrives in Seattle, the city which inspired her favorite movie Sleepless in Seattle, nothing goes right: she’s stuck sharing a small house with two other pregnant ladies; she has trouble reaching her boyfriend on the phone; the credit card eventually stops working; and the only person willing to spend time with her is her driver, Frank–the opposite of everything she ever wanted in a man. Or could he be exactly the kind of guy she really needs?
